In 2010, the Edward Jost Children's Centre in Spryfield is celebrating its 100th year; making it the oldest daycare in Metro.
According to the historical records, the Edward Jost Children's Centre was founded in the 1860s by Halifax businessman Edward Jost. Originally located on Brunswick Street in Halifax; the current location of the Halifax Metro Centre. Amoungst it's charitable works, Edward Jost's mission provided childcare and, in 1910, it opened a nursery school and after school program.
Today the Edward Jost Children's Centre in located in Spryfield, NS and is the oldest daycare in metro Halifax. A non-profit daycare centre with over 100 years of providing quality childcare to the local people of Halifax.
Currently there are 52 children attending the Centre and plans are in the works to build a second child care that will accomodate a further 54 children. Making Edward Jost Chidren's Centre one of the most modern and educationally orientated child cares in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
Edward Jost will be expanding to a new second facility in the Fall 2011. Our newest child care facility will open
and add an additional 40 spaces. More to follow on our latest project. |
